As proud title sponsor of Paralympics Ireland, PTSB along with Paralympics Ireland want to Turn Paris Green and are encouraging Irish fans to come along and support Team Ireland athletes during the Paralympic Games next summer. Tickets are on sale now via tickets.paris2024.org. The Games are expected to be a complete sell-out, with the largest number of Irish supporters in attendance since London 2012.
With less than a year to go, Paralympics Ireland is preparing Irish athletes to deliver world class performances and aiming to win multiple medals at the 2024 Games. To date, 5 Irish competition slots have been secured across various para-sports including swimming, athletics, cycling and rowing, with more sports to be confirmed in the coming months.
PTSB ambassador and Kerry native, high-jumper, Jordan Lee was born with a foreshortened left arm, he became the first one-handed player to play basketball for Ireland before embarking on his athletics career. Jordan’s potential was spotted by Paralympics Ireland at a national talent identification day held post-Rio 2016. His basketball ability gave him a natural aptitude for high jump, and he has progressed at an incredible rate. Jordan has missed much of the season through injury but he is determined to make up for lost time and secure his place for a return to the Paralympic Games during next years qualification window.
Speaking at the event, PTSB Ambassador Jordan Lee said, “I am absolutely delighted to be here today to encourage Irish supporters to Turn Paris Green. It is amazing to see the recent increase in participation in para-sport in Ireland and without a doubt it is due to the incredible backing from our sponsors like PTSB, supporting both current Irish Paralympians but also the next generation of future Team Ireland Paralympians. I hope sharing my story will encourage someone to believe in themselves and get involved in para-sport.”
Chief Executive Officer of PTSB, Eamonn Crowley said, “Sport has always been close to our hearts in PTSB. Not just because we’re passionate about it, but because we know its importance at the heart of communities the length and breadth of the country. As proud title sponsor of Paralympics Ireland, we are extremely proud to be here today encouraging communities across Ireland to help Turn Paris Green in support of our Irish Paralympians. With just under a year to go to the 2024 Games in Paris, our focus is on championing each of our athletes and supporting them on their path as they represent Ireland on the biggest stage of all.’’
Paralympics Ireland CEO Stephen McNamara said “The Paralympic Games are an incredible celebration of sport and disability. A European games is like a home games for Irish supporters. London 2012 saw our team deliver one of the greatest overall performances ever from an Irish group at a major event, helped by the support they received in the stands and on the streets of London. We believe that Paris has the potential to eclipse 2012 and we can’t wait to Turn Paris Green. Tickets are on a first come first served basis and they are available now.”
