Nicole Turner joined her Team Ireland teammate, Barry McClements, in today’s finals session after she qualified comfortably from her heat of the Women’s 50m Freestyle S6. Turner will go for her second medal of the week when she returns to the competition pool at 8:31pm for the final of the event.

The 50m sprint saw Turner battle gamely through the race to finish in a time of 36:10 which meant that she progressed to the evening session with little difficulty.

“The target is always a PB, but, as I said the other day, a PB after a Paralympic Games is always quite hard so I’ll just give it my all later on and see what happens.”

Barry McClements was the first of the Irish into the pool for this morning’s heats where he finished fifth in the Men’s 400m Freestyle S9 Heats in a time of 4:31.09. That finish is enough for Barry to progress through to this afternoon’s final which will take place at 5:20pm Irish time.

Speaking after his heat about what he had learned from the heat Barry said “I would say there is definitely some more pace in that third and fourth hundred, maybe stop looking around me so much, I was probably looking to see where everyone was a bit too much and yeah, swim my own race until that last hundred tonight.”
