With less than a week until the Opening Ceremony of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, Irish fans are putting their last preparations in place to travel to the French capital.
Here is a list of useful information to help along the way.
IRELAND HOUSE
Celebrate Team Ireland
O’Sullivan’s by the Mill is the home for Team Ireland at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris!
Located immediately beside the iconic Moulin Rouge, O’Sullivan’s by the Mill is the centre of celebration for Irish sporting fans whenever they visit Paris.
Irish Paralympic supporters who journey to the Games will enter without any cover fee and will be entitled to a 20% discount on all food. With screens throughout the pub, you will be able to follow along with all the action from the Games.
TRAVEL INFORMATION
Ensure your passport is valid, and carry your passport card if you have one.
Your passport must be valid for the entirety of your visit in France. We recommend you bring a passport card when travelling. A passport card fits into your wallet and means you can leave your passport book in a safe place to use as back-up.
According to French law you must always have some form of photo identification with you. If you can, avoid bringing your passport book out and about with you; keep it somewhere safe for the return journey.
Apply for your EHIC
You can get a free European Health Insurance Card at ehic.ie. The application is straightforward, and the card will be posted out to you within ten working days. However, you should apply as soon as possible to ensure you can bring the card to France. It will grant you easier access to healthcare, should you need it.
Purchase travel insurance
Whether or not you have an EHIC, we strongly recommend you purchase comprehensive travel insurance. Travel insurance can save you and your family a lot of money and ensures that you get the medical attention you need, when you need it.
Follow the rules
Be aware that there may be increased security around competition venues, train stations, and airports. Always follow the instructions of officials and police and remember to keep photo identification on you.
Getting there
Paris is served by Charles de Gaulle (CDG), Orly, and Beauvais airports. From CDG you can take either the RER B city train or the shuttle bus into the city. Orly is served by the OrlyBus which takes about 30 minutes to get into the city centre. Alternatively, you can get the OrlyVal train which connects to the RER B city train. You can find more information and plan your itinerary on the RATP website.
Beauvais airport is the furthest from Paris. However, a regular shuttle service to Paris city centre is adapted to flight timetables. Tickets can be purchased here.
Paris is also well served by national and international trains, including links to ferry connections with Ireland.
Getting around
Many public transport services will be disrupted during the Games, plan your route in advance using the Paris 2024 Public Transport app.

There are many bike rental stations across Paris, such as DOTT and Lime, you can sign up and be on your way in no time.
