Paralympics Ireland held their Annual General Meeting for 2022 at the Sport Ireland Sports HeadQuarters at Abbotstown on May 18th.

The meeting, which was a hybrid event, marked the first time that delegates were able to attend in person since 2019.

The AGM was chaired by president, Eimear Breathnach, who was chairing her first Annual General Meeting since becoming president in May 2021. The meeting marked an evening of reflection as the president and Chief Executive Officer, Miriam Malone, looked back on Tokyo 2021 and the events that occurred in the lead up to the pandemic delayed Games.

Minister of State for Sport and the Gaeltacht, Jack Chambers, was a special guest on the call and he addressed the members complimenting them on their dedication to their sports and their athletes.

CEO, Miriam Malone, signalled the learnings that came about from the Tokyo Games and thanked the partners that helped to make the contribution of Team Ireland so successful. She also spoke with optimism about the future and the positive changes that can be made through collaboration between key stakeholders in disability sport.

Three motions were also passed by the members in attendance and online as the Annual Report and Financial Accounts were adopted. The third motion saw the appointment of a new auditor as Crowe took over from Grant Thornton. Company Secretary, Tony Dignam, paid tribute to the outgoing auditors, Grant Thornton, represented by Michael Shelley, for their hard work and effort during their time working with Paralympics Ireland.

The final act of the meeting was a presentation from Director of Sport, Neasa Russell, who introduced delegated to a new approach for Paralympics Ireland born out of experience of the recent past, awareness of rising standards of Paralympic sport globally and feedback from members of Team Ireland received via the Tokyo Review. The Director of Sports presentation was well received and will be rolled out in consultation with members and national governing bodies over the coming months.
