Ellen Keane and Nicole Turner were the two members of Team Ireland in action overnight at the Citi Para Swimming World Series event taking place in Melbourne, Australia. Both swimmers progressed through to the final of the 100m LC Meter Breaststroke Multi Class event.

Ellen Keane produced a time of 1:24.82 in the final shaving a second and a half off her performance in the heats to finish in fourth place overall. Nicole Turner also improved by nearly a second in the final coming home in sixth place overall.

The event sees athletes from multiple classifications compete in the same race with their finishing times awarded points based on the weighting of their classification which decides their overall finishing position.

On day 1 all three athletes from Team Ireland competed in their first races of the event which also marked their season openers. All three swimmers progressed through to one final with Barry McClements competing in the finals of the 100m Backstroke and 100 Fly. McClements produced strong performance in each final as he finished in 6th place in the Backstroke and followed this with a 7th place finish in the Fly. Nicole Turner also reached the final in the gruelling 400m Freestyle event where she raced to an excellent finish in 4th place in a time of 5:55.14. Ellen Keane progressed straight through the final of the 100m Freestyle where she also finished in a strong 4th position with a time of 1:14.71.

The action in the pool in Melbourne will continue tomorrow (Sunday) when all three athletes return to the starting blocks.
