First permanent tsb NextGen Athlete Recruitment Campaign a Resounding Success

Testing 2

The first of four permanent tsb NextGen events kicked off with resounding success at the Kingfisher Sports Center at the University of Galway, yesterday, May 14th.

Athletes from the Connacht region attended the athlete recruitment day where they were put through their paces with a series of physical challenges to gauge where their strengths lie, and which sports might fit their skillset.

Also in attendance were representatives from various National Governing bodies who were on hand to inform curious para-athletes about their para programmes and demonstrate their individual sports.

Paralympics Ireland Sport Director and Chef de Mission for Paris 2024 Neasa Russell said, “I was absolutely thrilled with the first permanent tsb NextGen event went. The energy on the day was fantastic and we’ve hopefully signposted potential athletes to new sports. There was a lot of smiles a lot of good vibes and a lot of positivity.

We’re hoping that this will become a fixture in the calendar going forward as it’s so important to give people with disabilities an opportunity to try sports locally and that has been one of the themes of the positive feedback that we’ve received from the families, friends and the athletes themselves that they had the opportunity to see what’s available to them in their region.

We are grateful for the support of the National Governing Bodies and local clubs who were attended and are really looking forward to our next events in Cork, Lisburn, and Dublin.”

There are three more opportunities for people with disabilities to attend one of our regional permanent tsb NextGen Athlete Recruitment Days and find out what para sport may suit them. Full details are below.
