Day 5 was another night to remember for Nicole Turner and Team Ireland, as she won her second bronze of the weekat the World Para Swimming European Championships in Madeira, Portugal.
Nicole finished with a time of 35.56 seconds, smashing her own Personal Best in the S6 50m Freestyle. Nicole brought the fight as she battled for third place with Eleanor Robinson from Team GB, who finished 2.87 seconds behind the Irish swimming superstar.
The S6 50m Freestyle is not one of Nicole’s regular events, however, Nicole showed her true class and character to claim third place, showing she can compete for podium finishes in multiple disciplines.
Nicole will return to action tomorrow evening in the 100m Backstroke, followed by her main event, the 50m Butterfly, set to take place this Saturday at 18:20.
Following her bronze medal last night, Róisín returned to action on Day 5 in the S13 50m Freestyle Heat, Róisín clocked a time of 28.96 in the morning heat finishing in fourth place. Róisín finished in a time of 28.93 seconds in tonight’s final, to finish in sixth place. She will return to action tomorrow morning in the S13 400m Freestyle.
Elsewhere, Sean O’Riordan finished the S13 50m Freestyle Heat with a time of 27.54 seconds, Sean will feature again tomorrow in his main event, the 400m Freestyle at 09:35.
Speaking following his morning heat, Sean said: “It’s good to get back racing and representing my country, it’s been a while, so it’s good to get back in the water competing”.
