Paralympics Ireland AGM 2024

Paralympics Ireland held their Annual General Meeting for 2024 online on May 15th. The AGM was chaired by president, Eimear Breathnach, who has been president of PI since May 2021.

Both the president and Chief Executive Officer, Stephen McNamara, reflected on the progress made since Tokyo 2021 and the changes that have put the athletes and staff in a position to perform to the highest standard at the Paris 2024 games.

CEO, Stephen McNamara spoke about his exciting first year at the helm of Paralympics Ireland noting that the implementation of the strategic plan is priority for everyone at PI while also acknowledging that most pillars are delivering or on track to deliver. He also recognised the partners and sponsors that are integral an integral driving force behind Team Ireland and its success.

Eimear Breathnach also expressed her satisfaction in the fact that Paralympics Ireland are on track to hit all the targets set out by 2019 strategic plan. She spoke with optimism about the future and the positive changes that can be made through collaboration between key stakeholders in disability sport.

A touching tribute was paid to Ann Ebbs who passed away in February of this year. Ann was Paralympian and a pioneer of Para sport in Ireland and an IPC Paralympic Order recipient. She was the founder of the Irish Paralympic Council, which later became Paralympics Ireland and served as the General Secretary between 1987 and 2008.

Three motions were also passed by the members in attendance as the Annual Report and Financial Accounts were adopted. JPA Brenson Lawlor were appointed as new auditors for 2024.

There was an appointment of a new board member, Darren Coombes who has been CEO of Triathlon Ireland since 2020, having worked with Triathlon Ireland as Operations Director since 2015.
